SumUp launches consumer personal accounts with merchant-network cashback across six markets
United KingdomIrelandGermanyFranceItalySpain
What happened
On 1 July 2026 SumUp launched consumer personal accounts, its biggest push beyond merchant acquiring, offering up to 5% cashback at SumUp merchants (2% at supermarkets, 0.5% elsewhere), zero-fee global spending, instant transfers and budgeting tools. It went live first in the UK, Ireland, Germany, France, Italy and Spain, with plans to extend across SumUp's markets.
Why it matters
SumUp is turning its small-merchant base into a two-sided network, using consumer cashback to drive spend back into its merchant estate and moving onto the turf of neobanks and consumer wallets.
What to watch
Uptake versus incumbent neobanks, and whether the two-sided loyalty loop measurably lifts SumUp merchant volumes.
