Partnership
Francisco Partners (Verifone owner) in talks to acquire Moneris for $2bn+
What happened
Reported 3 May 2026 (per FT), Francisco Partners — owner of Verifone and a stakeholder in Paysafe — is in talks to buy Canadian processor Moneris from Royal Bank of Canada and Bank of Montreal. The deal could value Moneris, which processes 5bn+ transactions yearly, at more than $2 billion, potentially by summer 2026, though negotiations are ongoing and rival bidders could emerge.
Why it matters
Vertical integration of Verifone hardware with a large acquirer strengthens Verifone's distribution and captive volume against PAX and Ingenico — a structurally significant move for the terminal-vendor landscape.
What to watch
Confirmation/closing, Canadian regulatory review, whether Verifone hardware gains preferred placement in Moneris's estate, and read-through to Verifone's European SMB push.
