MobilePay becomes Vipps in Denmark, Finland and Greenland from 12 January

DenmarkFinland

What happened

Vipps MobilePay said on 6 October 2026 that the MobilePay brand will be retired across the Nordics. From 6 October the MobilePay app in Denmark and Finland carries the Vipps smile as its app icon, and on 12 January the name itself changes to Vipps in Denmark, Finland and Greenland, the name already used in Norway. The company reports close to 13 million Nordic users in total, of which 4.8 million are in Denmark and 3 million in Finland.

The app keeps its blue colour in Denmark and Finland and stays orange in Norway and Sweden; existing features and functionality remain the same and users need take no action.

Why it matters

This completes the 2022 Vipps/MobilePay merger on the one surface the market actually sees. The apps have run on a single technical platform since 2024, so what was left of the split was the brand, and with it the acceptance mark, the checkout button and the in-store signage that Nordic merchants and their PSPs maintain country by country.

One name across five markets gives the group a single Nordic wallet to set against Wero and the international card schemes instead of two national ones, and gives a merchant trading in Denmark and Finland alongside Norway one method to integrate, display and explain.

What to watch

Whether the January switch carries merchant-side changes the release does not mention, such as a single Nordic acceptance contract or renamed API and settlement references, and how the unified brand is positioned once Wero moves on the Nordics.
