ACI Worldwide adds cloud-native financial messaging to ACI Connetic for ISO 20022 migration
What happened
ACI Worldwide announced a cloud-native Financial Messaging capability inside its ACI Connetic platform, which translates, validates, enriches and routes payment messages in real time and lets banks run messaging as a centralised, enterprise-wide service decoupled from core payment processing. The release positions it against ISO 20022 migration and interoperability between legacy and modern rails, and cites growing Connetic adoption in the UK and Europe after an earlier 2026 expansion onto eight US networks.
Why it matters
ACI is one of the software vendors whose platform choices shape what European banks can offer on the acquiring and account-to-account side, and Connetic is the stack it is consolidating onto — the same platform it is buying Cranium's SYNAP card switching for. A messaging layer decoupled from processing is the precondition for banks to move card and A2A flows onto one hub, so this is incremental on its own but reads as another brick in that consolidation.
What to watch
Named European bank deployments of Connetic Financial Messaging, and whether it lands on the same platform as the Cranium SYNAP card-switching stack ACI agreed to buy on 4 September.
