Francisco Partners buys Moneris, extending its Verifone platform

Francisco Partners signed a definitive agreement to buy Moneris, Canada's largest acquirer, from BMO and RBC for 2 billion Canadian dollars. The buyer already owns terminal maker Verifone.

It signals financial sponsors assembling integrated hardware-plus-acceptance platforms under one owner. Verifone gains a captive distribution channel, and it is the kind of consolidation that reshapes who European acquirers compete against.
