TOP SIGNAL

Adyen hires Klarna's CFO into its own empty finance seat

Adyen has nominated Klarna CFO Niclas Neglen as its next finance chief, effective 1 February 2027 and subject to regulatory and shareholder approval. It ends five months without a permanent CFO after Ethan Tandowsky left on 31 August. Hwa Tsao stays interim until Neglen arrives.

The CFO owns the guidance Europe's largest listed pure acquirer is priced on, and the discipline behind a EUR 1bn acquisition year. The hire also pulls a senior operator out of a listed competitor: Klarna now needs a finance chief of its own, mid post-IPO reporting cycle.

  • Bizum reaches 75% of Spain's card terminals

Bizum's in-store payment is live at 1.6 million Spanish establishments, around 75 percent of the country's bank terminals, and switched on for 20 million users. No merchant hardware was needed: the Redsys and Cecabank Android estate already carries it. Santander has yet to activate.

  • Trustly cuts a quarter of its staff as losses widen

Trustly is cutting around 200 of more than 800 roles, weighted towards Brazil, after its net loss widened to SEK 534 million in 2025 from SEK 401 million. Europe's largest independent pay-by-bank provider is retrenching just as bank-owned schemes push the same rail for nothing.

  • Euronet's epay takes all of Munich Airport's acceptance

Munich Airport has put every cashless transaction on epay, the Euronet payments arm: shop and restaurant terminals, parking machines, staff cards, SoftPOS, e-commerce and QR table payments on one German-hosted platform, swapped over during live operations.

  • Revolut pilots face payments at 0% to the merchant

Revolut ran Pay with Smile at three London coffee shops from 24 to 26 September: customers look at a Revolut Register camera and are matched against the identity check from sign-up. Revolut charged the venues nothing on those transactions, being issuer, acquirer and terminal vendor at once.

  • CellPoint takes $34m, a new CEO and a layer above orchestration

Toscafund put USD 34m into CellPoint Digital through Penta Capital, installed Kevin Murphy as group CEO and Michael Kelly as chairman, and launched Zenith, an AI decisioning layer that sits above any payment orchestrator. Fifty hires follow across Europe, the Americas and Asia.
