Visa buys BioCatch for $2.4bn to stop fraud before the payment

Visa agreed to buy Tel Aviv-based BioCatch for $2.4bn in cash from Permira-advised funds. BioCatch reads keystrokes, touch gestures and device handling to spot account takeover and scams, and covers 1.8 billion devices, 760 million users and more than 350 banking clients across 21 countries.

Value-added services are the part of Visa's revenue that interchange caps do not touch, and a $2.4bn cash purchase shows how much future scheme income is meant to come from risk tooling rather than transaction fees. For European acquirers it means a scheme now owns behavioural signals they currently buy from independent vendors.
