Nexi lands a decade inside the digital euro

The ECB picked Nexi, bidding with Deutsche Telekom, as one of two Network Service Providers for the digital euro, on a ten-year agreement that covers the pilot. The grouping will interconnect the platform's data centres and give PSPs and national central banks access to it.

No other commercial acquirer sits in the scheme's core infrastructure rather than at its merchant edge. Nexi is already in the offline-solution framework and among the 36 pilot PSPs, so the award compounds a position nobody else holds, and it sets the connectivity path everyone else's digital euro traffic will take.
