Crédit Agricole buys out Worldline's stake in CAWL merchant-payments JV in France
What happened
On 30 June 2026 Worldline and Crédit Agricole announced that Crédit Agricole had acquired 100% of CAWL, their French merchant-payments joint venture, with Worldline divesting all of its shares. The relationship shifts from an equity-based JV to a commercial partnership under which CAWL continues to embed Worldline's acceptance solutions.
Why it matters
It is a further concrete step in Worldline's post-crisis strategic refocus, unwinding a flagship French bank JV and reshaping how it distributes acceptance in one of Europe's largest card markets.
What to watch
Whether Worldline continues divesting non-core equity stakes and bank JVs to simplify its European acquiring footprint.
