Wero launches e-commerce payments in Germany with first wave of merchants
What happened
On 16 November 2025 EPI announced the launch of Wero's e-commerce solution in Germany, deployed first by Sparkassen and Volksbanken/Raiffeisenbanken, with Postbank, Deutsche Bank, ING Deutschland and Revolut to follow. First online merchants accepting Wero include Eventim, Decathlon, Lidl, Rossmann, CEWE, Cineplex, Zooplus, Hornbach and BAUR.
EPI cited more than 46 million European users and over 1,100 ecosystem members, with rollout to Belgium, France, Luxembourg and the Netherlands (plus iDEAL integration) planned for 2026.
Why it matters
Moving beyond P2P into commerce is the make-or-break test for Wero as a SEPA-Instant-based European A2A scheme; merchant acceptance directly competes with PayPal, cards and the discontinued giropay in German e-commerce and shapes acquirer integration roadmaps.
What to watch
Activation across Deutsche Bank/Postbank/ING, conversion and acceptance breadth, the France/Belgium/Netherlands rollout and iDEAL migration in 2026, and whether large PSPs make Wero a default checkout option.
