Midnite switches on TrueLayer Pay by Bank, moving UK iGaming deposits off cards
What happened
UK sports-betting and iGaming operator Midnite went live with TrueLayer's Pay by Bank on 19 August 2026, letting customers deposit and withdraw straight from their bank accounts over open-banking rails with biometric authentication and real-time confirmation. The app-to-app flow replaces the card-based checkout. TrueLayer puts its network at 27 million users across the UK and Europe, and Midnite credits early adoption to the combination of its own interface with that reach.
Why it matters
iGaming is where UK A2A displacement of cards is furthest along — high deposit frequency, fast payouts and card costs that scale with churn make the economics work before they work in general retail. Each named operator switching is a data point on how far pay-by-bank has moved from a checkout option to the default in the vertical, and on TrueLayer's position in it ahead of commercial VRP going live.
What to watch
Whether Midnite reports a card-to-A2A mix shift, and whether the operators still on cards follow before commercial variable recurring payments open the same flow to subscription merchants.
