Competitive win
X pulls its US creator payouts off Stripe and onto its own X Money rail
What happened
Effective 2 September 2026, X moved all payouts to US creators away from Stripe and onto X Money, its own payments service, covering both the Original Content Rewards Program and creator subscriptions. X Money removes the two-week processing delay and the USD 30 minimum threshold Stripe payouts carried. Creators outside the US continue to be paid through Stripe.
X's older Creator Revenue Sharing Program stopped taking new participants in August 2026 and was retired on 7 September 2026, with those creators migrated to Original Content Rewards.
Why it matters
This is a platform in-housing the payout leg after using a PSP to build it, which is the standard end-state risk in Stripe's marketplace and Connect business and the one it is least able to price against. The volume here is small; the precedent is not. European marketplaces and creator platforms that have taken e-money or payment institution licences of their own face the same build-or-buy decision, and X has just demonstrated the pay-off in concrete terms, instant settlement and no minimum.
What to watch
Whether X extends X Money payouts outside the US, in the EEA in particular, and whether other large platforms on Connect follow the same in-housing path.
