Bank of Ireland deepens its Stripe partnership across group operations
What happened
Bank of Ireland said on 9 September 2026 that it had agreed an expanded strategic partnership with Stripe as part of its digital transformation programme, covering payments innovation, back-office operations and deeper integration of Stripe's technology into the bank's core operating systems. Stripe's programmable money-movement product already underpins payments reconciliation at group broker Davy, which has used Stripe's Bank Transfer product since 2021 and processed more than EUR 2 billion through it; New Ireland Assurance, the group's life and pensions arm, is to roll out a similar product shortly.
Why it matters
This is back-office money movement rather than merchant acquiring, and worth recording as such: it extends a global PSP further inside an incumbent Irish bank's own operations, the direction of travel in which PSPs supply rails that banks used to build themselves. Bank of Ireland also runs a merchant acceptance business, so the depth of this relationship is a standing question for whoever holds that estate.
What to watch
Whether the partnership reaches Bank of Ireland's merchant acceptance business as well as back-office flows, and what it implies for the bank's existing acquiring arrangements.
