Nexi names Bernardo Mingrone CEO, succeeding Paolo Bertoluzzo

What happened

On 25 March 2026 Nexi's board appointed CFO/Deputy GM Bernardo Mingrone as Group CEO, succeeding Paolo Bertoluzzo who had led since 2017. Mingrone joined as group CFO in 2016 and became CEO of Nexi Payments in early 2023. The stock initially fell before rebounding (~26%) amid subsequent CVC takeover speculation.

Why it matters

A finance-rooted leader at Europe's largest acquirer often precedes strategic/cost resets and M&A receptiveness (relevant to the CVC approach), affecting Nexi's terminal estate and vendor relationships across Italy and the Nordics.

What to watch

Mingrone's strategic priorities (cost vs growth), any POS/terminal sourcing review, leadership changes, and interaction with the CVC take-private process.
