Newland NPT expands European presence: acquires NewNote operations in France/Spain, achieves Girocard certification in Germany
What happened
Newland NPT acquired NewNote's terminal operations in France and some key software assets and major account management in Spain, opening a European branch office in Spain. Separately, Bluefin achieved Girocard certification for the Newland N950 AIO smartPOS terminal in Germany (February 2025), enabling German merchants to adopt Newland SmartPOS devices with Girocard acceptance. Newland also strengthened its Japan market presence through a localised collaboration (March 2026).
Why it matters
Newland's direct entry into the French and Spanish markets via acquisition — rather than just distribution partnerships — signals a more aggressive European expansion strategy. France is Ingenico's home market, and Newland's acquisition of NewNote's operations and major accounts there creates a new competitive dynamic. The Girocard certification in Germany opens another core Ingenico territory to Newland's Android terminals.
What to watch
Monitor Newland's market traction in France and Spain following the NewNote acquisition. Track whether Newland wins any Ingenico customer accounts in France, Germany, or Spain. The Retail Technology Show (April 2026, Excel London) is the next European trade show presence.
