Klarna goes live on J.P. Morgan Payments, reaching its merchants with no integration work
What happened
Klarna announced on 6 August 2026 that its first integration with J.P. Morgan Payments is live in the United States. Merchants on J.P. Morgan Payments' Commerce Platform can now offer Klarna at checkout with no integration work of their own, across retail categories from apparel and travel to health and wellness, and can present Klarna's full range: pay in full, interest-free instalments and longer-term financing, through their existing setup.
Why it matters
Klarna's European position was built merchant by merchant and through PSP integrations; being switched on by default inside a large acquirer's platform is a different distribution model with far lower marginal cost per merchant. The same pattern is what Klarna would need in Europe to defend share against bank-issued instalment products now being embedded in wallets by CaixaBank, Intesa Sanpaolo and UniCredit, and against Wero's planned instalment functionality.
That this launch is US-only, for a company whose home market and largest acceptance base are European, is the part worth noting.
What to watch
Whether Klarna announces an equivalent default-on integration with a European acquirer, and whether Wero's planned instalment feature arrives before it does.
