Global Payments Q1 2026: first full quarter with Worldpay beats expectations; Genius bookings nearly double y/y; FY guidance reaffirmed
What happened
On 6 May 2026, Global Payments reported Q1 2026 — its first full quarter after closing the Worldpay acquisition in January and divesting Issuer Solutions to FIS. Adjusted EPS was $2.96 (+10% y/y, beating consensus of ~$2.86); adjusted net revenue was $2.86B, up 29.5% reported (5.5% normalized constant currency). GAAP showed a loss (diluted EPS -$6.59) on acquisition amortisation and integration costs; long-term debt rose from $19.5B to $21B.
CEO Cameron Bready described Worldpay integration as 'very encouraging' with excellent alignment. Genius platform bookings rose over 25% sequentially and nearly doubled year-over-year; new Genius locations rose ~25% y/y; 44 new ISV partners added. FY2026 guidance reaffirmed: $13.80-14.00 adjusted EPS, ~5% normalized revenue growth, ~150bps margin expansion, plus a $500M accelerated share repurchase and >$2B returned to shareholders in 2026.
Why it matters
The combined GPN-Worldpay entity is executing ahead of expectations, which accelerates the timeline for European integration decisions — including the Genius rollout in Germany and Ireland where terminal hardware selection is still the open question for Ingenico. Genius momentum (bookings nearly doubling) confirms the platform is becoming GPN's primary SMB vehicle; whoever supplies its hardware wins a structurally growing volume stream.
The heavy debt load ($21B) and aggressive buyback programme suggest procurement cost discipline will be intense. Integration confidence also raises the competitive intensity facing Worldline and Nexi in European SMB.
What to watch
The terminal vendor decision for Genius in Germany, Ireland and the UK remains the single most important open question. Monitor European integration milestones with Worldpay and any consolidation of legacy terminal estates. Track Q2 results for sustained Genius momentum.
