Global Payments begins integrating European operations with Worldpay; launches Genius POS platform in Germany and Ireland

GermanyUnited Kingdom

What happened

Global Payments reported Q4 results showing European revenue of €300 billion, up 6%, with strong contributions from EVO businesses acquired in 2023 in Poland and Greece. The company has begun integrating its European operations with Worldpay and is rolling out Genius — Global Payments' Clover competitor — across UK and European SMB channels, starting with Germany and Ireland.

Worldpay brings a strong enterprise e-commerce customer base but has been losing share in its UK SMB heartland to Dojo and others.

Why it matters

The Genius rollout in Germany and Ireland creates a new POS platform that will require terminal hardware decisions. If Genius follows the Clover model (integrated hardware + software), Global Payments may standardise on a specific terminal vendor for the platform. This is a critical moment for Ingenico to position AXIUM as the hardware partner for Genius in Europe, or risk losing the opportunity to PAX or another Android terminal provider.

What to watch

Monitor which terminal vendor is selected for Genius deployments in Germany and Ireland. Track whether Genius uses proprietary hardware (like Clover) or is terminal-agnostic. The UK rollout timeline will be the largest-scale deployment decision.
