Competitive win
Munich Airport makes epay its central payment partner
What happened
Munich Airport has made epay, the Euronet payments arm, the central payment service provider for all cashless transactions at the airport and its subsidiaries Allresto (gastronomy) and eurotrade (retail). The mandate covers POS terminals in shops and restaurants, parking machines, employee card systems, SoftPOS, e-commerce for the Airbraeu online shop and QR table payments, on one platform hosted in Germany. Hardware and software were swapped during live operations.
Why it matters
An airport is the hardest German acceptance estate to win: dozens of concession operators, parking, staff cards, online and table service on one contract, in a place where a failed terminal is a missed flight. Consolidating all of it on one acquirer is the kind of reference that decides the next stadium, station and shopping-centre tender, and it puts Euronet, better known in Germany for ATMs and gift cards, into full-service acquiring against Payone, Nexi and Worldline on their home turf.
What to watch
The contract length and which provider was displaced, whether epay converts the reference into further German transport and venue estates, and whether Euronet reports German acquiring volume separately.
