Niclas Neglen to join Adyen as new Chief Financial Officer
EU
What happened
Adyen nominated Klarna CFO Niclas Neglen as its next Chief Financial Officer and member of the statutory Management Board, effective 1 February 2027 and subject to regulatory and shareholder approval. Neglen was CFO and COO for EMEA at HSBC Private Bank before Klarna and spent 13 years at General Electric. Hwa Tsao stays interim CFO until he arrives, then returns to Senior Vice President of Group Finance.
Why it matters
Adyen has run without a permanent finance chief since Ethan Tandowsky left on 31 August 2026, and the seat matters: the CFO owns the guidance that the market prices Europe's largest listed pure acquirer on, and the discipline behind a EUR 1bn acquisition year. Hiring the CFO of a listed BNPL competitor also moves a senior payments operator across the table, and leaves Klarna looking for a replacement in the middle of its own post-IPO reporting cycle.
What to watch
Whether the appointment is confirmed at the next shareholder meeting, whether Adyen's 21-23 percent net revenue growth guidance survives the handover, and who Klarna names as its own CFO.
