Partnership
Adyen becomes an approved Guidewire Marketplace payment partner, reaching 570 insurers from 2027
EU
What happened
Adyen was approved as a Global Payment Partner in the Guidewire Marketplace, the integration catalogue for Guidewire's property and casualty insurance core systems, which are used by more than 570 insurers across 43 countries. The approval lets those insurers connect Adyen's platform directly to their core system rather than building a payment integration per region: premium collection by card, ACH and local methods, recurring billing, and claims payouts by bank transfer or virtual card, with unified reporting and automated reconciliation, machine-learning fraud detection and tokenisation.
Adyen's pitch into the segment is that it holds its own banking licences and runs acceptance through to clearing and settlement on one platform instead of routing through third-party banks. The integration is designed for North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia-Pacific, and does not become available until 2027. No contract values, insurer names or volume figures were disclosed.
Why it matters
Insurance is one of the last large European payment flows still run on per-country bank connections, and it is two-sided in a way retail is not: an insurer both collects premiums and pays claims out, which is precisely the pairing Adyen's licences and payout rails are built for. Winning the catalogue position rather than an individual insurer is the distribution move - Guidewire sits between Adyen and 570 potential accounts, and a listed integration turns a bespoke enterprise sale into a configuration choice inside software the customer already runs.
That is the same ISV-channel pattern that has been reshaping acceptance in retail and hospitality, arriving in a vertical where the incumbent providers are banks rather than acquirers. The 2027 availability date is the limit on how much this changes now: it is a route to volume that has been approved, not volume that has moved.
What to watch
- Whether any named European insurers go live when the integration ships in 2027, and in which markets first
- Whether Adyen discloses insurance as a vertical in its H1 or FY reporting the way it broke out platforms and unified commerce
- Whether Guidewire approves competing global payment partners, which would turn the catalogue position from an advantage into a shortlist
- Whether rival acquirers pursue the equivalent listings in the other insurance core systems
