Wero reaches the physical point of sale for the first time via ZIIB's white-label QR solution
What happened
Berlin payments firm ZIIB integrated Wero into its 'Pay with ME' platform, saying it is the first provider to make Wero productively available at the physical point of sale. Rollout covers 11,000+ acceptance points in Germany and Austria through 2026, starting with vending machines, self-service car washes and parking, then staffed checkouts via a QR code on the customer display, with no extra hardware needed.
Why it matters
EPI's own roadmap puts Wero QR at physical checkout in 2026 and NFC in 2027, so a live white-label QR deployment is the first proof the in-store leg is actually starting. It reaches exactly the small unattended and counter merchants a bank-owned rail needs to become everyday, and it does so without new terminals.
What to watch
How many of the 11,000 points go live and how fast, whether staffed retail follows the unattended start, and whether EPI's official NFC checkout still lands in 2027.
