VR Payment showcases SoftPOS, Omnichannel Gateway, and Wero at EuroShop 2026; terminal estate grows to 330,000

What happened

At EuroShop 2026 (February 2026 in Düsseldorf), VR Payment (100% subsidiary of DZ BANK) presented SoftPOS solutions, a new Omnichannel Payment Gateway, and Wero integration. Key customers demonstrated include Burger King, Aramark, Europa-Park, Feinkost Käfer, and Eintracht Frankfurt. SoftPOS adoption by Aramark and Europa-Park eliminates need for additional hardware at POS. VR Payment processed 1.27 billion transactions in 2025 across 330,000 terminals and 7.4 million credit cards.

Why it matters

VR Payment's push toward SoftPOS — where payment acceptance is integrated directly into order-management systems without additional hardware — represents a potential headwind for traditional terminal sales. If SoftPOS adoption accelerates across VR Payment's merchant base, it could reduce new terminal orders. However, the growth from 240K to 330K terminals also signals that hardware demand remains strong in parallel. Wero integration positions VR Payment as a European sovereign payments advocate.

What to watch

Monitor VR Payment's SoftPOS adoption rates through 2026. Track whether SoftPOS displaces traditional terminal orders or supplements them. The Wero rollout across German cooperative banks will drive terminal software updates.
