Visa Direct moves stablecoin prefunding into commercial production with Inyo Global as first enabler
EU
What happened
Visa announced on 15 October 2026 that stablecoin-enabled prefunding on Visa Direct has left pilot, where it had been since 2025, and entered commercial deployment. Businesses can prefund cross-border payouts through Visa Direct with USDC in near real time instead of relying only on traditional funding windows. Inyo Global, a payments infrastructure provider and Visa Direct processor, is the first enabler to offer the capability, available to eligible Visa Direct clients and partners; Inyo's platform supports domestic and international payouts across more than 180 countries through Visa Direct. Visa published no volumes or adoption figures, and says availability depends on eligibility and geography.
Why it matters
Prefunding is the working-capital cost of running payouts: money has to sit with the network before it can be disbursed, and the funding windows that govern it are why cross-border payout businesses hold float they cannot use. Letting that collateral be posted in a stablecoin shortens the cycle without changing the rails the payout itself travels on, which is the pragmatic version of stablecoin adoption rather than the disruptive one.
For European marketplaces, gig platforms and travel businesses that pay out across borders, it is a treasury change rather than a payments change, and it is the second Visa stablecoin production step in a month after the Lloyds settlement in late September.
What to watch
Which further enablers beyond Inyo Global offer it, whether European clients can use it given MiCA obligations on the token, whether Visa reports volumes at its next results, and whether Mastercard answers with prefunding on its own payout rails.
