Nexi puts ReFiBuy's catalogue optimisation behind its merchant base for AI shopping agents

EU

What happened

Nexi announced a partnership with ReFiBuy, an Agentic Commerce Optimization platform, to integrate ReFiBuy's product-data optimisation into Nexi's merchant network so that merchant catalogues can be read, evaluated and recommended by the AI shopping agents consumers use to search and compare products. Nexi frames the reach as millions of merchants across more than 25 countries, and cites a forthcoming Nexi survey of roughly 28,000 consumers in eleven European countries in which more than half said they had used AI to search for or buy something online in the past month.

Why it matters

This moves agentic commerce from the payment leg to the discovery leg at Europe's largest acquirer. The corpus already records the payment-side plumbing being built out (Mastercard's Agent Connect, the Visa/Mastercard/Ant agent-identity work, Getnet's agent-initiated acceptance), but this is an acquirer selling merchants visibility inside the agent rather than authorisation behind it.

If catalogue legibility becomes a service acquirers bundle, it is a new attach point on the merchant relationship that sits above the processing rate and is harder for a competitor to price against.

What to watch

Whether Nexi prices this as a paid value-added service or a retention giveaway, which markets of the 25+ it reaches first, and whether the other large European acquirers answer with catalogue-optimisation partnerships of their own.
