Fiserv names Takis Georgakopoulos CEO as Mike Lyons departs to lead Truist
What happened
On 15 June 2026 Fiserv announced that Takis Georgakopoulos has been appointed CEO and a board member, effective immediately. He succeeds Mike Lyons, who stepped down as CEO and from the board to return to banking as CEO of Truist Financial Corporation. Georgakopoulos joined Fiserv in late 2024 and previously served as co-president of technology and merchant solutions, bringing two decades of payments, technology, AI and cybersecurity experience.
Why it matters
A sudden CEO swap at the owner of the Clover POS platform — amid a self-described transition year and reported strategy pressure — creates near-term uncertainty over merchant-acquiring and terminal-roadmap priorities, and competitors may probe for account instability during the handover.
What to watch
Strategic re-prioritisation under Georgakopoulos (Clover device targets, AI initiatives, international acquiring), any further executive turnover, and guidance changes at the next earnings call.
