CIB Bank gives Hungarian account openers a free Visa payment ring

HungaryEU

What happened

CIB Bank, the Hungarian subsidiary of Intesa Sanpaolo, is distributing RingPay contactless payment rings to customers who open a CIB ECO, ECO Plusz or ECO For You account with a Visa Inspire debit card and meet the campaign conditions, in a promotion running from 15 July to 30 September 2026. The ring carries no battery, screen or app dependency at the moment of payment and works anywhere Visa contactless is accepted.

CIB customers can also link a RingPay ring directly to eligible CIB Visa and Mastercard cards through Fidesmo tokenisation, without routing through a Curve account.

Why it matters

Wearables are the cheapest way an issuer can raise contactless frequency without touching the card itself, and the interesting part for acceptance is that a ring is indistinguishable from a card at the terminal, so merchants inherit the volume with no integration and no new cost line. It also fits the pattern the EPI barometer described in Belgium, where consumers are leaving the physical card rather than contactless.

As an acquisition device tied to a specific account and card product, it is a small but concrete data point on how European issuers are now buying primary-account status.

What to watch

Whether CIB extends the offer past 30 September or beyond the ECO account range, and whether other Intesa Sanpaolo subsidiaries copy the tokenised-wearable approach.
