mBank makes BLIK the second bank rollout in Slovakia, live for all customers by 1 October
EUPoland
What happened
mBank Slovakia began rolling out BLIK on 22 September 2026, starting with a first group of customers and reaching all of them by 1 October. Customers generate a six-digit code in the banking app to pay for online purchases without entering card details; no in-store or peer-to-peer use is offered at launch. mBank is the second bank to carry BLIK in Slovakia after Tatra banka, and is a BLIK shareholder in its home market of Poland.
Polski Standard Płatności, which has run BLIK since 2015, says the Slovak rollout follows the cooperation model already established in Poland. A EUR 10 cashback bonus runs for online purchases at participating merchants between 1 and 31 October.
Why it matters
BLIK is the clearest case of a domestic scheme trying to become a regional one, and Slovakia is the test of whether it can do that through partner banks rather than by acquisition. A second issuer moves it from a single-bank pilot to something an online merchant in Slovakia can reasonably expect shoppers to have — which is the threshold at which a method starts to earn checkout placement.
What to watch
Whether a third Slovak issuer follows, and whether BLIK adds in-store acceptance there rather than staying e-commerce only.
