Competitive win
Bank Pekao picks NCR Atleos Authentic to modernise its card payment switch
What happened
NCR Atleos announced on 17 September 2026 that Bank Pekao S.A., one of the largest banks in Central and Eastern Europe, has selected the Atleos Authentic payment switching platform for its card payment processing infrastructure. Atleos says Authentic will support Pekao's card payment processing operations alongside card management, API workflows, PIN management and fraud detection.
No contract value or go-live date was disclosed. Pekao's Maciej Jopyk cited a comprehensive evaluation process; Atleos named Bartlomiej Sliwa, its area vice president for Central and Eastern Europe, on the deal.
Why it matters
Poland's card processing stack is being re-platformed bank by bank, and the switch is the layer that decides what an issuer or acquirer can launch next. A tier-one CEE bank replacing a legacy switch with a vendor platform puts Atleos into a market where eService, Polskie ePlatnosci and Fiserv Polska already compete for processing work, and it sets what Pekao can do on tokenisation, instant payments and fraud screening for years. The absence of disclosed terms limits how much can be read into the size of the win.
What to watch
Whether a go-live date or contract value is disclosed, and whether other Polish banks follow Pekao onto vendor switches rather than in-house processing.
